Where the Wild Things Are… by Opening Ceremony

We have already seen enough of WTWTA that we are sick of the movie, and it has not even opened yet!  Although the state of merchandising and commercialization is simultaneously atrocious and pathetic, we felt compelled to share an image of the latest WTWTA collection from Opening Ceremony.  They went on sale this week and range in price from $220. (not sure if these are supposed to be Halloween costumes or what…)

Wallpaper* X Victorinox Swiss Army Knives

Wallpaper* and Victorinox have partnered to create a select release of custom Swiss Army picketknives.  Much cooler than the standard corporate logo emblazoned on a knife, these actually have the look and feel of Wallpaper* right down to the materials used (see the one with the wooden case)…

WALLPAPER* CUTS WITH VICTORINOX IN LONDON

Victorinox announces an exclusive creative partnership with the official authority of design, Wallpaper* magazine, launching at London Design Festival 2009.

Entitled ‘Wallpaper Cuts’, the project is a unique collaboration between Wallpaper* and Victorinox, celebrating the beautifully crafted Swiss Army Knife. Three limited editions, featuring designs by Wallpaper* and up and coming artists James Joyce and Jamie Cullen, will go on sale exclusively at the Victorinox Flagship store on New Bond Street from 21st September.

Using the popular Climber Swiss Army Knife, the Wallpaper* Victorinox model is cased on both sides in untreated natural wood. Undulating contour lines have been laser etched into the wood, accurately representing a portion of the mountainous landscape which surrounds the Victorinox factory in the village of Ibach, Switzerland. This topographic design creates a tactile, graphic image on the knife, as well as providing a visual link to the home of the Swiss Army Knife.

Each knife is available for 70GBP and limited to an edition of 100.

Designer Superyacht by Wally and Hermes

It could be argued that Wally is the pinnacle of yachtmaking, and that Hermes is the pinnacle of luxury, so it is only natural that these two brands would join together to create one of the most exciting and luxurious ship designs ever.  Based on the Wally Construct 9 design, the WHY (Wally Hermes Yacht) is not only supremely fancy and modern, but also eco-friendly (well, sort of)… The “colossal luxury yacth is 58 meters long and 38 meters across, enough to feature a 25 meter pool and a 36 meter beach for ultimate sea-faring relaxation. Other than its high end amenities and the contemporary living spaces, it comes with a 900 square meters solar panel array and a waste management systems capable of holding both organic and inorganic waste.”

Ferrán Adria´s new Role

Ferrán Adria, of El Bulli fame, will take on a new role beyond that of chef and restauranteur… Luxist reports, “Chef Ferrán Adrià, the innovative visionary behind the strange and wondrous cuisine of El Bulli, a restaurant widely reputed to offer one of the most amazing dining experiences in the world, has a new job. The chef has been charged with helping draw tourists to Spain. Tourism is a big part of Spain’s economy but like other destinations it has seen visitor numbers decline. So the tourism industry is calling out the big guns. Adria will team up with the Esade Business School in Barcelona and La Caixa, the savings bank, to head the Tourism Management and Gastronomy School. Adrià will give classes one week each year teaching innovation and creativity to hospitality business owners. The London TImes reports that Adrià has met José Luis Rodríguez, the Spanish Prime Minister, to ask for €14 million to back the project which should begin next year.”

Sam Haskins Retrospective

According to client Tommy Hilfiger, “Sam has a refreshing sense of fun in his photography, and manages to capture the balance of a woman’s inner and outer beauty”… and we agree.  TH will be sponsoring this retrospective exhibit of the South African photographer´s work at the Milk Gallery through October 26 in NYC.  The exhibit features 200.  “The 200-piece exhibition, which is accompanied by a special-edition hardcover sold in Tommy stores, strikes a nice balance between hsi more recent fashion work (for the likes of Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar) and the swinging-sixties cheesecake stuff (call it the etcetera).”
