Last Minute Gift Idea…

The Moment sent a reporter to Paris and the new (since May) Alain Ducasse Cooking School.  For any of you still with some dollars (or better yet, euros) to spare I invite you to check out the experience which seems pretty cool.

When the chef Franck Loquet lifts the lobster from the wicker hamper on the kitchen counter, the beautiful indigo crustacean waves its claws and arches its tail like an economy-class passenger who has finally been given some breathing room. “Ce n’est pas du chauvinisime,” says Loquet, 34, “but these are the best lobsters in the world — they were caught in the waters off the Iles de Chaussey in Brittany, and their taste is incomparable.”

“Not waving but drowning,” quips Nathalie, the advertising copywriter whose work station is next to mine at the large island in the center of the kitchen classroom at the new Ecole de Cuisine Alain Ducasse, and my expectations of the four-hour lesson we’ve just begun soar. I mean, how many French women not only know the poem of the same title by the British poetess Stevie Smith but would associate it with a lobster’s imminent doom?

Banksy for Sale in Berlin

One of Banksy´s last remaining pieces in Berlin, “Anarchy Rat” is for sale…

According to Hypebeast “The piece was situated on the wall of a building at the military graveyard on Kleine Rosenthaler Strabe in Berlin’s Mitte district. It was executed in 2003 as part of Banksy’s Tour of Berlin when he was in town, to take part in the Backjumps Live Issue Urban Art Festival in the summer of 2003. The owner acquired the piece from the District Council (the owners of the property) before the council was set to “remove” it from the building, making it one of Berlin’s only existing Banksy murals left, which have not been destroyed by housing redevelopment or the council’s anti-graffiti squad. After reaching an agreement with the City of Berlin, a renowned art conservator was commissioned to remove the piece of wall to the highest professional standards (see link 2) and then mount it on a aluminium honeycomb board to ensure stability – (the same procedure used in classic art restoration when conservating ancient fresks for example). N.b. an expertise from the art conservator and the official authorisation from the City of Berlin will of course be disclosed to the new owner.”
