EYE CANDY…
A feast fo the eyes is currently on display in Paris at the first annual Festival International de la Photographie Culinaire. Here, visitors can be treated to a number of fantastically beautiful images fit for visual or oral consumption by some of the top artitistic and commercial food photographers in the world.
Founded by a former cookbook editor named Jean-Pierre Stephan who had noticed a dramatic improvement in food photography in recent years, the festival aims to position the photographs in the same light as a masterwork painting, and eventually on somebody´s wall.
“True to the spirit of the Old Masters, this first edition features a seafood theme. Some of the photos borrow heavily from the still-life genre, while others tend toward abstraction or surrealism. Many – such as a cliché of cuttlefish hanging from clothespins – are more aesthetic than appetizing. And because no festival is complete without a competition, a panel of food and media personalities is to select a grand prize winner. The jury includes a few Americans, notably “Iron Chef America” producer Bruce Seidel and photo editor Amy Koblenzer, of the late Gourmet.”
