SCIENCE OR ART?
In the New York Times blog, The Moment, September 12, there is a great post from Berlin based writer, Nick Currie about the CERN super-collider located outside of Geneva, Switzerland. The CERN is a global project that is attempting to examine the nature of particles and atoms in relation to each other and our life.
According to Currie, “Science doesn’t set out to look cool and sexy, or influence the worlds of art, design, architecture and fashion. It sets out to do stuff like “land on the moon,” “recreate nature less than a billionth of a second after the Big Bang” and “discover the God particle.” But, along the way, science inspires designers, architects and musicians, too; think of the influence of the space program on Pierre Cardin, Stanley Kubrick and David Bowie.”
Below are some of the images in addition to some images from German photographer Adreas Gursky. Also, like Currie has done in his post, I have included a clip from Kubrick´s 2001 Space Odyssey that features the “Hilton” scene (around 7 minutes into the clip) since this is, after all, the Design Hotels blog- is this the future of hotels?
